Graduate Students
Paula Beronilla, PhD student
Paula completed her Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto in 2018, specializing in Cell and Molecular Biology. During her undergraduate studies, she conducted research on investigating the role of mechanosensitive ion channel of small conductance- like (MSL) proteins in the basal pollen compatibility pathway in Arabidopsis. As a graduate student, her current research aims to identify the role of members of the plant U-box family of E3 ubiquitin ligases in the self-incompatibility pathway in Arabidopsis and Capsella. Outside of the lab, she enjoys cooking and spending time with family and friends.
Stephen Bordeleau, PhD Student
Stephen received his Honours Bachelor of Science from Brock University in 2020 with a major in Biology. During his undergraduate studies, he conducted research to characterize a mutant line from the medicinal plant Catharanthus roseus which produced high amounts of commercially important alkaloids, such as catharanthine. As a graduate student, his current research project aims to investigate the recently identified LRR-VIII-2 family of receptor-like kinases and the complexes they form as part of the early stages of pollen acceptance in Arabidopsis thaliana. Outside of the lab, he spends his time reading and exploring the city.
Angela Sidsworth, PhD Student
Angela received her Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto in 2022, specializing in Cell & Molecular Biology with a focus in Molecular Networks of the Cell, a Psychology major, and a Physiology minor. During her undergraduate studies, she conducted research investigating the role of salicylic acid in the self-incompatibility pathway of Arabidopsis. As a graduate student, she is continuing this research and aims to further characterize the role of SRK in this pathway. Outside of the lab, she enjoys hiking, reading, and going to concerts.
